Time and again, our customers have requirements that are special but cannot be met with standard solutions. Recently, one of our customers from the food industry approached us and needed round cord rings or O-rings in various clear diameters for existing machines. Normally, an O-ring tool has to be built for each inner diameter, which incurs considerable costs, especially as the lengths involved are long and stretched.

Our solution to this: to vulcanize a round cord together with our film vulcanization system. This offers maximum flexibility in the stretched length with a high load-bearing capacity at the same time. In film vulcanization, a profile or round cord is clamped in tool halves. The cut edges are then covered with fresh compound and then moved together. The vulcanization energy then passes through the heated mould halves into the joint plane and firmly joins the two halves. The quality of this joint is comparable to a completely vulcanized joint and significantly better than an adhesive joint. This can also be used for square frames, in which case the mold just needs to be designed accordingly. This type of connection can be used with all temperature-resistant elastomers such as EPDM, silicone and FKM.
