Silicone frame seal
Practical and inspiring – successful practical examples from silicone: A customer from the process engineering sector approached us with this challenging request. A silicone frame seal was required for a drying device. In addition to high temperature resistance and FDA conformity, the special feature in this case was to combine two different manufacturing processes.
The profile for the sides of the frame is produced in continuous lengths by extrusion. A special tool was made for the corners in order to vulcanize them into shape. The frame seal is then assembled from the individual components, giving the customer a high degree of flexibility for various frame sizes.
In order to guarantee the function of the frame seal, it was important to perfectly coordinate the production of the profile and the corners. This applies not only to the choice of material, taking shrinkage into account, but also in particular to the design of the tolerance ranges for the respective manufacturing process. It was therefore always necessary to consider the entire project and not just the production of the individual items.
